The Biopharmaceutical discipline is concerned with the production of drugs with active ingredients inherent to living things and made using biotechnology means. The Biopharmaceutical major was first offered as a bachelor course by the College of Life and Environmental Sciences in 2017. The program was initiated by the then-president of Wenzhou University, Li Xiaokun as part of the drive to greater development in the field of bioscience at WZU. The program adopted the teaching training model used in Wenzhou Medical University for its biopharmaceutical program. The establishment of this program was pushed forward with the help of a team of academic and supporting staff already engaging in the teaching of the biotechnology program. The program is supported by two research platforms: Zhejiang the Biomedical Collaborative Innovation Centre for the development,  preparation, function, and mechanism of growth factors and peptides; and Zhejiang Key Laboratory of Water Environment and Marine Biological Resources Protection, which explores the development and function of marine drugs.  This major is currently not available to international students.

Program Objective

The program aims to equip students with the basic knowledge of biology, pharmacology, engineering, and professional knowledge of biopharmaceuticals so that they can use this knowledge to develop new technologies for the manufacturing, quality testing, and management of biopharmaceuticals during the production phase and providing technical support in matters relating to biopharmaceuticals. Graduates in biopharmaceuticals can find employment in biotechnology companies and pharmaceutical companies related to the life and health industry, either as a researcher or in the business branch.
